With Mission One accomplished, Canadian Olympic Gold Medal skeleton racer Jon Montgomery and his wife Darla Deschamps Montgomery have their collective eyes focused on a new prize: dual gold medals in skeleton at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.

Coined Mission Montgomery 2, Jon turned to long-time sponsor Twist Marketing to create a new website highlighting the couple’s new mission. The site features information about Jon and Darla as well as their joint Olympic goal. “The new site is fantastic,” says Darla. “It provides a meeting place for the public and our fans to connect with us and learn about our progress as we approach 2014.”

With the new site in place, the Montgomerys still have a challenging racing season ahead. Both athletes are required to earn three qualifiers during the 2012-13 campaign that begins in November 2012. Then, during the Olympic year of 2013-14, one more qualifier must be earned before Christmas to successfully be named to the Canadian Olympic team. But the two aren’t worried.

“It won’t come easy,” says Jon, “but if you're not willing to put it all on the line, you’ll never have a chance to win and you’ll certainly miss 100% of the shots you never take.”

If they succeed, Jon and Darla will be the first married couple to earn Olympic medals in individual sports—and in the process, they may just capture the hearts of Canadians.

As for Twist Marketing, they’re proud to sponsor the couple’s Olympic dreams, regardless of the outcome. “Sponsoring Jon and Darla as they go for the gold in 2014 is a privilege and honour,” says Catherine Proulx, Managing Director at Twist Marketing. “We’ll definitely be watching—cheering them on from our TV sets here in Calgary.”

Jon & Darla Montgomery are all smiles as they celebrate Darla’s first World Cup podium finish (Bronze) at a women's skeleton race in Cesana Italy.

Jon catapulted to fame after his win on the skeleton track (and subsequent beer auction) at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, BC. The popular Canadian athlete later married fellow Canadian skeleton racer Darla Deschamps in August 2011, laying down roots in Calgary, Alberta, where the pair train. Discovered at a Canadian talent camp, Jon’s earned four World Championship titles and numerous other medals. This year, Jon sacrificed what would have been his 10th competitive season in skeleton to perform a larger volume of runs and develop his equipment to ensure his success - and Canada's - at the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.

About Darla Deschamps Montgomery

Also a Canadian skeleton racer, Darla has competed on the America's Cup, Europa Cup, Intercontinental Cup and World Cup tours. During the 2010-2011 Inter-Continental Cup season, she took two gold medals and two bronze before being called up to World Cup for the second half of the campaign. After numerous top fivefinishes, Darla captured bronze in Cesana, Italy at the final race of the season - one of only seven women in Canadian history to have earned a World Cup medal in skeleton racing. Although Darla was out with an injury for the majority of the 2011-2012 season, she looks forward to beginning preparations for the 2014 Olympics.
