“We wanted our guests to have a lot of fun at our Fundraising Gala on Oct 18th at the Westin – and we thought the uplifting Moulin Rouge style would make it memorable and entertaining,” says CoraMarie Clark, Founder of The Tooth Fairy Children's Foundation.
“The Paris themed Moulin Rouge not only represents stylish dress and entertainment, but it was also the birthplace of the Can-Can. It gives everyone a chance to dress up and let loose on the dance floor. We will also have top hats, boas and fascinators available for purchase at the door.”
Funds raised at the 6th Annual Tooth Fairy Children’s Foundation Fundraising Gala go directly toward fulfilling the Foundation’s mission of providing every child worldwide with a toothbrush, education and access to dental care.
To date, The Tooth Fairy Children’s Foundation has put toothbrushes into the hands of more than 385,000 children in 43 countries. The goal for 2013 is to give 400,000 toothbrushes to children in need. Each dollar that is raised at the gala will make the Foundation three toothbrushes closer to its goal, and give three more children a possession every human should be entitled to have.
“I am incredibly humbled by the support we have had received so far - I get goose bumps just thinking about all of the children that are going to receive a toothbrush because of the funds raised at this gala. I have personally witnessed the need among children in Kenya, China and Guinea,” says Clark.
“Our employees really embrace the Big Bike Challenge,” says Marketing Manager Colleen Baxter. “It’s truly a fun, fundraising event. Our staff exhibited a great deal of team spirit. We had everything from a team mascot, cheers, noise makers, music, and handmade banners. Every time we ride the 30 seat Big Bike in Fish Creek Park, we turn heads.”
“While the $7,500 we raised this summer is a little smaller than in past years, one has to keep in mind that Calgary has been hit hard with fund raising requests for flood related projects. Under the circumstances, I think we have done an exceptional job.”
Prior to setting out on their two kilometre Big Bike Challenge, Millrise Place employees warmed up with a spirited and energetic exercise routine. Following the ride, we all celebrated with ice cream treats.
A vital fundraiser with impressive results, the Big Bike Challenge continues to engage Canadians across the country. Last year, over 40,000 riders, in 200+ communities, helped raise more than $7 million for research for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Carole Kelly, a registered nurse and Millrise Place’s Executive Director of Care added that in addition to being a great vehicle for having fun and building teamwork, the Big Bike Challenge also reinforces some important messaging to both Millrise employees and the general public.
“It is estimated that if all Canadians engaged in 60 minutes of physical activity per day, 33% of all deaths related to coronary heart disease, 25% of deaths related to stroke, 20% of deaths related to type 2 diabetes, and 20% of deaths related to hypertension could be avoided.”
