MEDIchair Cambridge/Guelph is delighted to proclaim that the MV-1, North America's only purpose-built accessible vehicle, has secured new, rock solid ownership and has resumed production.

Vehicle Production Group (VPG), the private manufacturer of the MV-1, suspended operations in May 2013. Following that, AM General, the assembler of the MV-1, secured ownership of VPG's assets and resumed MV-1 sales, operations and production. AM General will assemble the MV-1 at its world-class commercial assembly plant in Mishawaka, Indiana, which is fully tooled for MV-1 production.

“At MEDIchair, we have never stopped servicing the needs of our MV-1 customers,” explains David Parton who spearheads the sales, distribution and service of the MV-1 from his two MEDIchair stores in the Cambridge-Guelph area.

“During the transition period we continued to receive inquiries across Canada about availability. Without question, there is pent up demand for the MV-1 across the country. We are telling our customers it will be a minimum of eight weeks from order placement to delivery. We expect to begin making deliveries to our customers in Ontario, the Maritimes and western Canada in the first Quarter 2014.”

“The new LX version of the MV-1 with upgraded features including wood grain panelling, enhanced seating and wheel trim options will create a buzz among buyers looking for vehicle that has enhanced curb appeal,” says Parton.

In Ontario the MV-1 is available through MEDIchair stores in Cambridge, Smiths Falls, New Liskeard and Thunder Bay. In western Canada, MEDIchair Regina services the needs of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. In eastern Canada MEDIchair Halifax is the primary MV-1 agent.

The MV-1 is the first vehicle purposely designed and built for wheelchair users. It is the only accessible vehicle that meets or exceeds the stringent vehicle guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Canadian CSA D-409 safety standards. The SUV-like vehicle has an easily deployable manual or fully automated ramp built directly above the frame but below the floor. The ramp extends from the side so that wheelchair users can enter from the curb and sit in the passenger position.

The MV-1 fills a significant void in consumer, government and para-transit fleet markets while providing unsurpassed accessibility and comfort. The MV-1 is built to deliver unprecedented durability, reliability and safety as validated time and again by Canadian MV-1 owners.
