Following a formal RFP process, Twist Marketing was awarded a community branding assignment to help shape the future of Fort Frances, Ontario and develop a uniform brand throughout the town. Earlier this month, the agency completed a community branding workshop with area stakeholders to discuss the branding process.
Explains Chris Fields, a senior brand and destination marketing strategist at Twist Marketing, “Many people think that branding is only about creating a pretty logo. Nothing could be further from the truth. It’s more akin to distilling a lot of information through a funnel to create a condensed mix that answers the questions – Who are we? Why do we matter? What do we want to be known for? What do we want to say and how do we say it? What does the future look like for us?”
Fields adds that municipalities, more than any time in the past need to be very aggressive in marketing themselves. And that means getting outside their typical comfort zone.
“To be heard above the clutter of media noise, municipalities need to develop a unique voice and a distinctive message and have a solid strategy to effectively implement their marketing.”
The Twist Marketing team is currently in the midst of conducting one-to-one stakeholder interviews as well as surveys followed by analysis and recommendations for the future.
“We expect to deliver our final recommendations to the Fort Frances Economic Development Advisory Committee in early 2014 with implementation in the spring,” says Catherine Proulx, Managing Director, Twist Marketing.
